Eat and Drink Like a Local in Boston Logan

Eat and Drink Like a Local in Boston Logan

Resist eating your same-old, grab-n-go airport meal the next time you travel through Boston Logan, and enjoy something local instead.  From burgers with a famous name to classic New England clam chowder, Boston Logan has you covered when it comes to delicious local food. Here are a few options that will not disappoint:

Wahlburgers (Concourse C)

Off the Wahl burgers at Wahlburgers!

Wahlberg is a pretty big name around Hollywood, but it may even be a bigger name in the Boston area. Like the family, Paul Wahlberg’s Wahlburgers went from a local burger joint to a big restaurant franchise. There is even a reality show of the same name, about the family. If you’re traveling through Boston Logan, you can see what the hype is about first hand; not surprisingly, Wahlburgers is known for their burgers  which are sorted on the menu by ‘hearty’ and ‘house’….depending on your mood. Try the ‘Our Burger’ or the ‘O.F.D’ (which means, “Originally from Dorschestah”!). Choose from a variety of both traditional and non-traditional toppings to make a burger your own…c’mon, when is the last time you got to choose ‘goverment cheese’ as your queso of choice?! You can also pick from a variety of sandwiches, salads, and desserts so everyone in your crew should be pleased with this option.

Insider Tip: Vegetarian and hungry for more than a salad? Try the portobello sandwich for a yummy alternative to meat.

Farm to table food at Berkshire Farms Market

Berkshire Farms Market (Concourse B)

Berkshire Farms Market is partnered with Berkshire Farm and Table to bring you the freshest, most delicious food selection from local Massachusetts small businesses. Before your next flight, swap out the fast food for a salad or a sandwich made from locally-sourced ingredients. If you just need a snack, there is a juice bar with a variety of fruit and veggie options. Treat yourself with one of Klara’s Gourmet cookies and a Katalyst Kombucha to enjoy on your pending flight.

Insider Tip: Bring home some Sweet Brook Farm Maple Syrup, Bola Granola, or Berkshire Bark for a last minute gift that nobody will realize was last minute.

Vineyard Grille (Concourses B and E)

Can’t go wrong with a lobster roll in Boston!

Vineyard Grille is the perfect place to grab your last bit of classic New England seafood before you depart Boston Logan. Choose from fried clams, oysters, scallops or, for the ultimate experience, a lobster roll! Of course, you cannot go wrong with New England Clam Chowder served with oyster crackers (and you  might try adding Tabasco for a little kick!). If you’re not a seafood lover then Vineyard Grille also offers plenty of other delicious sandwich and salad options.

Insider Tip: Beer lovers rejoice! You can select your brew from 15 regional craft-brewed beer choices.

If you’re traveling through Boston Logan, you can get a taste of the nautical themed brews that gain so much traction at Cisco Brew Pub. Popular beers include Shark Tracker, Whale’s Tale, and Grey Lady. There is a menu with burgers, sandwiches, and salads to pair with your beverage.

Ski trails in Vail, Colorado.

Vail, Colorado

Some say spring skiing is the best skiing, so head to Colorado to hit some epic slopes with the fam. If you have younger children, put them in lessons for a couple days where they will have fun skiing with other kids (and you won’t have to worry about entertaining them until dinner!) Make sure to find a resort with a pool for the kids and a hot tub (and spa!) for the parents to enjoy when it becomes dark. Also, tubing and ice skating are awesome activities when you want to take a break from skiing. Rumor has it Vail is the perfect shopping destination as well. While a lot of shops are high-end and expensive, it doesn’t hurt to look.  But fear not, if you don’t have your own equipment.  There are plenty of places to rent (Check out Christy Sports and Black Tie) in the area….even down to your clothing!

King Street, Charleston.

Charleston, South Carolina

An equally historic and beautiful place, Charleston has plenty of activities that your entire family will enjoy. Visit Fort Sumter for a firsthand view of a Civil War landmark where you can spend hours exploring its grounds. Feel daring? Take a ghost tour to learn even more about Charleston’s fascinating and tumultuous history. If you have young children who do not have the patience for a tour, take them to the South Carolina Aquarium or the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry. But certainly families of all ages will appreciate a horse-drawn carriage ride through the beautiful city and hours spent on the beach. Charleston is also known for its food scene, so don’t leave before trying seafood or barbecue at a local favorite (ask the locals, they are the experts!)

The beautiful Atlantis resort!

Atlantis (Paradise Island, Bahamas)

We’re not sure who will enjoy Atlantis Paradise Island Resort more – the parents or the kiddos! Atlantis is a huge resort with ample pools, water parks, marine life, spas, and entertainment. There is something for every member of your family without having to leave the property. Dad can golf and the kids can conquer the huge waterslides while mom hits the spa. It’s a win win win! There are also plenty of shows and events going on so be sure to ask an employee for the details. Just a short flight from BNA to Nassau and a quick bus ride is keeping you from paradise on Paradise Island and a spring tan.

View of Quebec City.

Quebec City, Quebec

A beautiful city with friendly people, Quebec City is the perfect location for a family vacation. First, explore the beautiful nature of Quebec. Canyon Sainte-Anne is a spectacular park with breathtaking views and waterfalls, which you can view from the suspension bridges. You also must spend a day in the neighborhood of Old Quebec. Old Quebec is situated on the water with amazing architecture and views all around. Go inside the Château Frontenac for a taste of luxury and pick out souvenirs for friends and family in the charming shops. Happen to have a bad weather day? Head over to the Méga Parc, one of the largest indoor parks in North America.

Our nation’s capitol.

Washington DC

Ah, our nation’s capitol. Full of so much political turmoil and corruption. But this should not sway you from taking your kids on such an important trip to learn about our country’s history. From the multiple Smithsonian museums to the many monuments, it is difficult to fit all the essential locations of the city into one week.To save money, focus on the monuments and free-t0-enter museums and attractions. The Air and Space Museum and the National Zoo (along with all of the Smithsonian locations) are usually popular with the kids and all you will have to worry about buying is lunch and souvenirs! The National Mall hosts the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and other concrete reminders of how the Unites States was formed. While scoring a tour of inside the White House is not easy, capturing a picture from the outside is still exciting and a great profile picture.

Insider Tip: Almost anything you may have left at home will be available at one of the BNA shops for you to purchase before embarking on your family vacation, so no worries!

Let us know in the comments or tweet us @flyinstyleapp where you and your family are heading on your next family vacation. Safe travels!

Once you arrive in Miami, activities, clubs and an eclectic food scene await. Fist, purchase a “Go Miami” card. With this, you have discounted rates to around 30 attractions and activities. Take a tour of the whole city, the everglades, or day trip to Key West! You will even be able to skip lines at some locations with the “Go Miami” card.  If you’re not one to spend your vacation sight-seeing, you cannot go wrong with spending your days on the beach and the nights at the clubs. That is most likely where you will find your fellow spring breakers anyway! Before you leave, take part in the local Cuban culture with a mojito!

Universal Studios.

Orlando

We know what you’re thinking, but your twenty-year-old self certainly loves Orlando as much as your seven-year-old self. You’re now tall enough to conquer all of those rollercoasters. Spend your days at Universal riding those rollercoasters and at night eating and (if you’re of age) drinking your way through the countries of Epcot. Disney’s water parks are still the best and will keep you refreshed in the Florida heat. Central Florida may lack the beaches that are synonymous with spring break, but it certainly does not lack the excitement.

Bring your sunscreen because you will be in the sun all day in Cancun!

 Cancun

Tour nature by zip line, snorkels and catamaran tours. There are many spring break packages in Cancun that can help get you get more bang for your buck. Groups like Studentcity and Sun Splash Tours aim to provide students with the most exciting and unforgettable week of their lives but with an emphasis on safety. Don’t leave without sharing a pitcher of margaritas with your friends!

Now get planning!

One last thing: Before you depart BNA, head over to Accessories Place (B-6) or Hudson News (A/B Rotunda, C/A Security Checkpoint, C-1, and C-10) to pick up any last minute items you forgot to pack!

Insider Tip: Find a group of friends and purchase an apartment with a couple bedrooms, a bathroom, and a kitchen. Bring an air mattress and your nightly costs will go way down! Having a kitchen will save you even more money if you all pitch in on groceries and make group meals. Saving money on travel, food, and sleep will leave you more for participating in activities, nightlife, and the local culture.

Have fun but, most importantly, be safe!

Romantic Getaways Begin and End at These Airports

Romantic Getaways Begin and End at These Airports

Many of us think the vacation starts the moment we step out of the airport at our final destination. If you and your significant other are going on a trip for Valentine’s Day, however, there is no reason your romantic getaway cannot start (and end) at the airport.  Here are some insider tips to help you find the massage, wine, chocolate and more that will make your Valentine’s getaway start from the moment you check-in!

Romantic

Most airports have spas designed to keep you relaxed while traveling.

Nashville International Airport (BNA)

Behind on gifts for your Valentine and planning to fly through the Music City? Amaze her with chocolates from Godiva (B-6) and pair them with flowers from 24-Hour Flower (A/B lounge and C lounge). Head over to Graycliff Cigar Company (C-10) to buy him a fine cigar to enjoy on your vacation after a nice meal. When you are done exchanging last minute gifts with your honey, relax at the Massage Bar (B-1, C-14) for a well-deserved bit of indulgence or grab a glass of wine at Vino Volo (C-7) and enjoy a decadent meal before boarding your flight. You’ll both be ready for romance by the time you land.

Miami International Airport (MIA)

Whether you are departing from Miami International Airport en route to your final destination or en route to return home, you chose a great place to extend your romantic vacation. If you’d like some extra pampering, be sure to make an appointment ahead of time at Jettsetter Spa (South Terminal H) or Xpress Spa (D-10). Both locations offer plenty of services to make you feel relaxed and rejuvenated before your flight.  Next find Beaudevin, located in the North Terminal. Here you can enjoy perfectly paired wine and small plates and escape from some of the hustle and bustle of the airport. Pick up desserts from the highly acclaimed  Icebox Cafe (D-8) on the way to your gate to give your tastebuds a delicious reminder of South Beach and a sweet treat for you both.

The airport holds many opportunities to get closer with your significant other.

San Diego National Airport (SAN)

Enjoy wine and small plates and traveling through San Diego National Airport? You are in luck; Beaudevein is located in Terminal 2, another perfect location to enjoy a romantic meal in a bustling airport. Surprise your significant other with a massage or gift from the Be Real Spa (Gates 26 & 36). You can even get aroma, oxygen & light therapy or a mani/pedi! Who says airport travel is stressful? Not here. And of course it is not Valentine’s Day without chocolate, so buy a delicious box of the famous See’s Candies in Terminal 2 East to share with your loved one over a glass of vino.

Don’t forget to get your Valentine a box of chocolates.

Insider Tip: Check out our app if you are traveling other airports around Valentine’s Day. Look out for relaxing spas, dessert shops, and restaurants with a romantic atmosphere. There is no reason for your Valentine’s Day trip to begin and end at the airport.

Relax in the airport in these new American Express Centurion Lounges

Relax in the airport in these new American Express Centurion Lounges

Tired of the hustle, bustle and noise at the airport during your layover or pre-flight waiting period? You already know that airport lounges offered by the airlines provide a well-needed respite from the maddening crowd wandering through the airport. Some are better than others – especially if they are FREE!

If you’re not lucky enough to be a top-tier elite airline frequent flyer or carry a premium ticket, American Express Centurion Lounges at the airport may be your answer! American Express is offering free access to these exceptional lounges exclusively for their Platinum Card® and Centurion® Members.

Right now, these new (all under three years old!) and upscale airport lounges from AmEx are only open in a few airports, but if you are lucky enough to be in Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, Dallas-Fort Worth, New York-LaGuardia, San Francisco, Miami, and Seattle (an extension of The Centurion Lounge in a smaller setting), then visit you must! A new lounge is planned for the Houston (IAH) airport later in 2016.

From the moment you walk in, you know something’s different – in a good way. While all locations include standard amenities like showers and complimentary Wi-Fi and food & drinks, and a variety of seating, each has its own unique characteristics that provide a comfortable pre-flight or layover experience at the select airports. On the menu at each location – locally-inspired food and locally produced wines, beers and artisanal beverages. The cuisine at each Centurion airport lounge is prepared by world-renowned chefs known for showcasing the local flavors of the area. This is the way to kill the dead time you have to spend at the airport!

Let’s check it out!

Starting with the “mini” version at the Seattle (SEA) airport, at the Centurion Studio, you’re treated with unexpected touches like premium healthy snacks and comfortable seating with high-speed Wi-Fi and outlets near every seat. The Studio is located in Concourse B, opposite Gate B3. The Studio is accessible from any security checkpoint and open 5 AM – 10 PM. (Photo Credit: Travel Codex)

AmEx opened its first Centurion Lounge in Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS) in 2013. Freshen up in well-appointed shower suite, and dine in decadence with cuisine by chef Scott Conant. Savor succulent dishes like Lamb and Beef Börek and Orecchiette with Eggplant. You can even enjoy a cocktail developed by one of the nation’s top mixologists, Jim Meehan. The Lounge is located in Concourse D, opposite Gate D1. The concourse is accessible from Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 via the transit system. Once you pass security, follow signs to D gates. Hours are 5 AM – 11 PM. Photo courtesy of American Express.

Next, let’s travel to the Centurion Lounge at the Miami (MIA) airport. This airport lounge provides a bright environment and even offers spa therapies! Once again, the locally-inspired food is incredible, with cuisine designed by James Beard Award-winning chef Michelle Bernstein. The Latin-inspired Braised Chicken Thighs and Corn Soup with Roast Poblanos will have you shouting “Ole!” The Lounge is located in Concourse D, near Gate D12, on the 4th floor. The Lounge is accessible via the Skytrain in North Terminal- Station. Open 5 AM – 11 PM.   Photo courtesy of Miami Airport.

Stuck in LaGuardia Airport (LGA)? Then this Centurion Lounge is the place to hang out – and it’s even located pre-security, perfect for a pre-flight visit with a friend. Sip on wines handpicked by renowned wine authority Anthony Giglio, and savor the diverse New York City culinary offerings like Green Chili Udon Noodles and Italian Burrata on Crostini, designed by one of Zagat’s top 30 under 30 chefs, Cédric Vongerichten. The Lounge is located pre-security, on the 3rd floor between Concourses B and C. If your flight departs from another terminal, you can take the Route A or B airport shuttle on the arrivals level. Hours are 5:30 AM – 8 PM (Sunday – Friday) and 5:30 AM – 6:30 PM on Saturday. Photo courtesy of The Points Guy.

The Dallas-Fort Worth Airport is the third busiest airport in the country, so the Centurion Lounge here is just what the doctor ordered to escape the craziness – unexpected touches like spa therapies from exhale® and even a family room! Dining is also a pleasure, with cuisine designed by James Beard Award-winning chef Dean Fearing, including Tex-Mex dishes like Texas Migas with Chorizo and Sweet Onions. The Lounge is located in Terminal D, opposite Gate D17, on the mezzanine. The Lounge can be reached from any other terminal via the Skylink train and is open 5:30 AM – 10 PM. Photo courtesy American Express.

Last, but not least, is the Centurion Lounge at the San Francisco Airport (SFO.) Here, a Napa Valley wine tasting area and a well-appointed shower suite can wash away any of your airport travel stresses. Succulent dishes from Zagat chef Cédric Vongerichten await – like Fried Chicken with a Honey Lemongrass Glaze and Chocolate Mousse with Mint Cream. Yum! The Lounge can be accessed post-security from Terminal 3 or from International Terminal G. If your flight is not in Terminals 3 or G, visiting the lounge could be a bit cumbersome. Since all terminals are not connected post-security at SFO, if you are flying out of another terminal, you may be able to use your boarding pass to enter through T3 security – subject to approval by the TSA agent. After visiting the Lounge, you will need to exit through security, take the AirTrain or walk to your terminal and re-enter through security. Open 5 AM – 11 PM. Who knows – on your next layover or pre-flight airport travels, these American Express Centurion Lounges can stand guard to protect you from travel insanity!

To access The Centurion Lounge, the Card Member must present The Centurion Lounge agent with the following upon each visit: his or her valid Card, a boarding pass showing a confirmed reservation for same-day travel on any carrier and a government-issued I.D. The Centurion Lounge is a Day of Departure lounge requiring confirmed travel plans. Passengers holding standby tickets and non-revenue standby passengers, including airline or industry employees traveling on discounted tickets, are not eligible to utilize the lounge unless they have received a boarding pass showing a confirmed seat or zone assignment for the flight for which they are on standby. All other Card Members with a valid American Express® Credit or Charge Card are eligible to purchase access to the Lounge for $50 per day, subject to capacity. How You Can Make Your Flight to Europe Much More Affordable

7 Money-Saving Tips as You Plan Your European Trip

Europe is one of the top dream vacation spots. 10,504,779 U.S. citizens traveling to Europe. The culture, the history, and the landscape make it a hot travel spot. However, a trip to Europe might be on the pricy side due to expensive flights. These tips will take the weight off of your wallet.

#1 Leverage Frequent Flyer Miles

Get more out of your credit card spending by choosing a card that rewards you with frequent flyer miles …before you know it, you can earn a free ticket! Look for a credit card with a low or no annual fee and a big mileage bonus to optimize your benefit. Then you can put typical expenses that you are paying over a period of time on the card and watch the miles accumulate! Another clever trick is to make an agreement with family and friends that if they give you a check ahead of time they can put something on your credit card. That way you have even easier way to build up your credit.

#2 Important Last Minute Deals

Mark down United Airlines’ E-fares Tuesday on your calendar, they have great deals set up for the weekend and the following weekend. You could even find a ticket to Europe for a few 100! If you have a spur of the moment, a site that can become your travel buddy is www.lastminute.com.

#3 Be Flexible About Travel Times

If you leave early or late, it will pay off because you will save money on your flight. The week holds some potentially affordable travel days, so look for flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Saturdays which are usually the days that airlines offer the most discounted prices.

#4 A Savvy Shopper Can Easily Save Money

Expedia and Priceline are great sites to find the perfect deal. You should compare the airline prices with the prices on these sites. Why? Well, for example with an airline like United Fare, if you find a flight lower than an Expedia and Priceline deal they will match it and give you $50 off the next flight you want to book. Sweet, you just earned yourself a deal on your next vacation. What a great way to save ahead of time!

#5 A Good Season is Off-Season

If you travel during spring and fall, the price of tickets is lower.  Beware of the cost of flights around “the shoulder season” (aka Easter and Christmas time), which can be the most expensive times to book flights and accommodations. Fall and spring travel can mean up to 10 times in savings! If your planning for March and November, in between spring break, and before summer these are usually the times to find the best deals to save you some green backs.

#6 Low Fares to New Destinations

Once new routes are established by an airline, they promote it with super low introductory rates that you won’t want to miss out on.

10 Important Rules of Packing

10 Important Rules of Packing

When traveling, packing your suitcase can be a pain because you might feel like you want to bring your whole closet with you! You have to think about the cost of any extra weight and extra bags. For example, if you are flying on a popular airline like American Airlines you can expect to pay fees like $25 for the first checked bag then up to $200 up for any additional luggage.

  1. The number one rule to remember when packing is to “take half of the clothes you were planning to bring and twice the money.” Therefore, you save space in your carry-on and have extra money so you are better prepared for any situation.
  2. When deciding what to bring, take what can fit in a carry on. A carry-on is more convenient because you can easily carry it since it will be on wheels. If it gets lost, it will be easier to find since it is smaller.
  3. If you place the Fragile sticker, it will help it get treated as priority luggage because it will be placed on the top pile and have a VIP status over other people’s luggage since it will be placed first on the plane.
  4.  If you mix and match, you can easily create more outfits, but at the same time carry less with you. For example, 3 shirts and 3 bottoms is a total of 9 different outfits that you can switch around.
  5. Instead of bringing a bulky book or a CD, bring a lightweight version like a Kindle prepared with any book or country guide needed and your ipod.
  6. Use the hotel dryer instead of bringing the extra bulky weight of your own dryer, flat iron, etc.
  7. If your traveling somewhere cold, layers will work like sweaters and jackets. So, you can easily avoid carrying any bulky clothing and save on the extra baggage.
  8. Cotton and khakis are better than jeans because jeans can absorb dirt and odors.
  9. If it’s an important item like a laptop, but it wont fit in your everyday bag it would be better to leave it at home. Things can easily get stolen.
  10. If you forget a basic item you can easily buy it. You will find soap, shampoo, socks, and t-shirts wherever you go.
